About Adult Craft Camp

Fun, creative, exploratory drop-in sessions for 1-4 people (or for some sessions, we’ll let in a few more) that focus on a particular craft/project.

A session is a two-hour class followed by an optional 30 minute practice period where you can choose to continue to craft after your class with any others that choose to stay. Jocelyn will be available for extra help or more questions. (However, the 30 min practice session is just that; i.e., not intended to be an extension to the class teaching time.) Sessions will be held while the shop is open.* The two-hour session is designed to cover approximately an hour of teaching content along with time to practice techniques, work together on the craft/project, and ask questions (i.e., not two hours of teaching time). You may finish early.

You should leave with a new skill, better understanding and/or renewed joy for a craft you practiced in the past, and a finished project or work-in-progress to continue at home.

*From time to time Jocelyn may need to step away to help incoming customers.

When

Selected Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 1-3pm in the months of June, July and August.

New sessions added for Aug 24 thru Sep 1! The new sessions are a mix of past sessions back due to popular demand, and some new topics!

The session is two hours, plus an optional 30 min of practice time where you can choose to stay and Jocelyn will be available for more help and questions.

Dates for late June, all of July and early August are confirmed and registration is open. We may add dates for late August and/or September, schedule and demand permitting. If you see a session that you like, we encourage you to do it now as we don’t know when we will certainly offer it again.

7/15/23 update: Thank you Yarn Farm Friends for coming to our camp sessions so far! We love crafting with you! We’re planning sessions for the second half of August and will post them in a little while. Stay tuned!

How to Attend

Pre-registration is kindly requested. This helps us prepare materials, understand demand, and set up the space. Register online here. In certain cases we may increase a session size and/or offer an additional date if demand is high. So contact us if the session you want is sold out! If we do not have any registered students by 24 hours before the start of a session, we reserve the right to cancel the session. So sign up in advance to make it happen!

Walk-ins may be permitted, space permitting.

Just bring you, a curious mind and patience for yourself and others! Materials will be provided. For specific sessions we may suggest additional tools/materials that you may also bring, if desired, but these will be nice-to-haves.

Price

Class fee of $40 for one session.

There is an additional required materials fee for essential materials used in the session, which in most cases will range from $15-20 and is payable on the day of your session. You will get a 10% student discount for all materials used in class. On the day of your class you may use your 10% discount towards additional (optional) materials and tools or additional shopping.* In many cases the class materials will include tool(s) to keep and use after the class is over.

*There may be rare exclusions (selected items) where we are unable to offer the 10% discount and will let you know if that arises.

Special multi-session pricing:

If you register for four sessions we are pleased to offer you the fifth session free.

If you register for eight sessions we are pleased to offer you two sessions free and a $20 gift card.

Cancellations and Refunds Policy Specific to Adult Craft Camp

Should you be unable to attend your session, please advise us no later than 48 hours in advance. By doing so, you may 1) swap your spot for another available spot/session or 2) take your class fee in the form of a gift card less a $5 processing fee (i.e., $35 gift card value). No refunds after this cut off. Free sessions (received as part of the multi-session pricing) have no cash value. Thank you for your understanding.

Session Descriptions - remaining camp sessions

Thursday, August 10: Sashiko Embroidery

In this session you will learn basic sashiko embroidery. You will select a printed sashiko panel, sashiko thread, and be guided through the process of stitching a panel. We will discuss how the finished panels can be used. This session is ideal for beginner sewers who have been intrigued by sashiko and how it differs from embroidery we more commonly see and do in the US.

Friday, August 11: Weave on a Tapestry Loom

In this session you will be provided a warped tapestry loom to use during the session. We will cover basic weaving techniques and you will have access to a range of yarn and fiber to use for your weaving. Towards the end of the session we will remove your weaving from the loom and finish (secure) the edge. The finished fabric may be used as a wall hanging, or as fabric to then use in a sewing project. The materials fee will be the weight of your finished woven fabric ($10/ounce or $10 per 28 grams). The materials fee does not include the loom. Should you choose to purchase your loom after the session you definitely may, and will benefit from your 10% student discount!

Thursday, August 24: Beginner Hand Embroidery

In this session you will learn and practice a few basic stitches, which is all you need to have fun and create lovely textile art! You’ll learn about materials, helpful tools and free reference materials, plus good sewing tips. We’ll talk about sashiko, a form of embroidery from Japan and some ways it differs from the embroidery we are familiar with here in the US.

Friday, August 25: Magic Carpet Yarn Cake Spinner

In this session you will crochet a motif using fat braided 100% cotton cord, then sew the motif onto a small lazy susan to create a spinning yarn cake holder! This class is for people who already know how to crochet and is not a how-to-crochet class. If you’ve crocheted in the past and need a mini refresher, or if you’re just a beginning crocheter (but do know the basic stitches) this is fine!

Wednesday, August 30: Continuous Weaving on a Square Loom

In this session you will learn the basics of continuous weaving on a square loom. This loom produces woven fabric squares that you can later seam or crochet together to make articles of clothing, light throws, or other things made from fabric. The materials fee covers the yarn you use for your weaving but does not include purchase of the loom. Should you choose to purchase your loom after the session you definitely may, and will benefit from your 10% student discount!

Thursday, August 31: Macrame a Row Counter

In this session you will learn how to tie knots with a hemp/cotton cord and string on numbered beads in order to make a row counter. This type of row counter is similar to others that are sold commercially that are made from metal and beads with differences – notably it’s softer and it’s fairly easy and economical to make yourself, without any need for jewelry making/metalwork knowledge. You’ll learn the general steps to make the row counter, and how it’s used, and how you can customize yours to make it your very own. During, or after the class, you’ll likely want to make more than one, to have for each work-in-progress!

Friday, September 1: Structured Crochet

In this session you will crochet with fat braided 100% cotton cord to make your choice of basket or our Magic Carpet yarn cake spinner. This class is for people who already know how to crochet and is not a how-to-crochet class. If you’ve crocheted in the past and need a mini refresher, or if you’re just a beginning crocheter (but do know the basic stitches) this is fine!
