In this two-hour wheel spinning class for beginners you will build on the Beginner Wheel Spinning full-day intensive, which is a pre-requisite for this class (and offered roughly every other month).
In this class we will
spin singles with worsted and woolen techniques (initially introduced in beginning spinning part 1),
try to assess what is working/what's not,
and then spend time plying singles together.
Pre-homework (a must!): spin and come with spun singles on two (or more) bobbins. It doesn’t matter how they look! Do your best and we’ll work with where you are. In class we can practice plying those singles together in the opposite direction to make plied yarn, and then wind this off onto niddy noddys or a skein winder to make a skein.
Tools to bring:
Required: You must bring your own spinning wheel, or borrow one from a friend. Presently we do not have loaner spinning wheels. Make sure your wheel is functional. (Bring it to the shop before class and we can help you check if you’d like.)
Optional: If you have a niddy noddy already it would be great for you to bring this in. We have 1-2 and the shop skein winder. We don’t sell niddy noddys at the shop at the moment.
Don’t forget! Proficiency in spinning will come over time with steady practice after your course. Keep at it, a little (10-15 min) each day.
