Sock Series (Feb)

You'll make an easy worsted weight top-down sock - from cuff down to the heel - and learn all the required steps to accomplish this, over three one-hour sessions in a small group setting.  We will follow the free pattern Easy Peasy Socks by Stacey Trock. If you've never followed a written pattern before this is a great course to learn how to do this, including learning about the different sections of a standard pattern and abbreviations typically used.

This class is a good option if you are comfortable knitting and purling but have never attempted a sock. This is not a beginner knitting class; you should already know how to cast on, knit, purl and bind off. You should be comfortable knitting in the round, whether on a circular needle or on double pointed needles, as when you make a hat or cowl. You do not need to know how to do magic loop (or even what that means yet!) or know how to use double-pointed needles (DPNs), but just be comfortable knitting in the round. We will use DPNs in this class.

Session 1: We will cover the long tail cast on, knitting with double pointed needles, and starting the cuff. Homework: continue the cuff and make the heel at home.

Session 2: We will review anything needed from the first session, and then cover how to turn the heel and make the gusset. Homework: make the foot length at home.

Session 3: Again review of prior session techniques, and then cover toe decreases and how to do the kitchener stitch. Post-class: make the second sock on your own! You can do it!

You’ll boost your chances of success in sock-making with a positive attitude, patience with yourself, and steady knitting in between classes at home… do your homework!

After taking this class you’ll be ready to make your next sock with more traditional sock weight/fingering yarn. Using worsted weight yarn in this class makes things easier.
