Another hole in your favorite sock? Traditional darning is one way to mend it, but you can also darn with crochet! A crochet darn is sturdy, flexible, and can be shaped to fit a heel or toe. In the spirit of "visible mending", it's fun to use bright, wild colors to show off your crochet darn, so save those leftover bits of stripy sock yarn for your mending basket. You might have so much fun, you'll actually be happy to see a new hole in your most-loved and worn garments!
Note: A knowledge of the most basic crochet skills (single crochet stitch) is needed for this class.
Materials needed:
A sock, sweater or other knit item with a hole (can be hand or machine knit, or crocheted)
Small amount of comparable-sized yarn to what the original is knit from (probably between fingering and worsted), can be matching or contrast
Compatible crochet hooks, in the range of B-D (2-3mm) for fingering yarn, up to F-G (3-4mm) for worsted
Scissors
Tapestry needle
