Yarn Farm Kingston welcomes all spinners - beginners and experienced - to join us in this year’s Tour de Fleece (TdF)! Knitter, teacher, designer, and spinner Star Athena started the Tour de Fleece with a handful of friends and a dream: to spin on 21 days in the month of July. Read more here!
The TdF happens every year during the time when the famous bicycle race Tour de France takes place. This year, the Tour de France starts on Saturday, June 29, 2024 and runs until Sunday, July 21, 2024.
Guidelines (not rules!) from Ravelry’s Tour de Fleece group page (log in needed):
Spin every day the Tour rides, if possible. Rest on the days they rest. Challenge yourself on their toughest days. Unexpected collapses, ambushes and twists of all kinds could be on the cards, so remember to have fun despite the unexpected!
Rest Days: Monday, July 8 and Monday, July 15.
Challenge Days: Spin something challenging on the challenge days (usually the toughest high mountain stage) The first one is Stage 9, on Sunday, July 7, when a demanding week comes to an end with the first authentic mountain test. The second is stage 15, on Sunday, July 14.
So what exactly is YFK doing for TdF? Mainly we’re rallying the troops, and making sure we have supplies available to support you in TdF this year! Demand and weather permitting, we may organize a couple of spinning meetups at YFK during TdF. Let us know if you’re interested!
Come to Yarn Farm to shop for fiber and spindles before, during and after TdF! Let us know that you are doing Tour de Fleece for 10% off your fiber and/or spindles from June 29 through July 21. Not a spinner yet, or need a refresher? Sign up for our Beginner Wheel Spinning day-long intensive on June 29. Missed it? Contact us for a private session to brush up on your spindle or wheel spinning skills!
Post on the usual socials (IG, FB, Threads, TikTok) and tag us!
Want more guidance and support? Consider joining the Tour de Fleece 2024 private Facebook group for more inspiration and support! (YFK is a member but otherwise not moderating or administrating this group.)
