Welcome

Yarn Farm Kingston is thrilled to welcome NYS Sheep and Wool Festival attendees to our yarn shop and wine bar! We were open for a pop up shop for S&W2022 and are fully open this year!

We propose a series of events that are free and fun! Since we know the S&W Festival is the main event (Festival on Saturday and Sunday, plus pre-Festival classes starting Thursday), we have multi-day events so you’ll be able to catch something at YFK whenever you take a break from the Fairgrounds. Meet new fiber friends in our shop and wine bar, and throughout the Kingston Waterfront neighborhood! Every October at this time, Jocelyn’s downtime with fiber friends during the S&W weekend was as joyful and treasured as her time at the Fairgrounds. We’re aiming to create this cozy, fiber-indulgent feeling at our shop, bar, sidewalk cafe and throughout the Waterfront. We scheduled our programming from Wed-Mon, or pre- and post-NYS S&W Festival weekend, since many people come for a long weekend. Some of you may want to swing by YFK on your way home from the Festival on Monday (that’s you vendors)!

Shopping? If you have a coupon for 10% off your purchase of $100 or more, please remember to bring it to use it! Coupons are available in the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival program and in Indie Untangled swag bags.

Week-long Raffle!

What’s sad about the NYS Sheep and Wool Festival aka Rhinebeck?

When it’s over!

Our solution to sustain the joy a bit longer is to hold a week-long raffle! We’ve reached out to our treasured makers and yarn company partners and have received a gasp-inducing array of prizes to raffle off! (Thank you sponsors!!!)

Come by our yarn shop and wine bar. We will be giving out one raffle ticket per person per day, no purchase necessary, from Oct 18 to 23.

Post about us on social media and show us your post for that day and we’ll give you one more ticket! Meaning, max of 2 tickets per person per day.

We’ll draw and contact the winners of our raffle beginning Monday evening 10/23. We’ll pick a winner each day or two in the days after the S&W Festival weekend. Maybe one of the winners will be you!

Local? Come by to pick up your prize when you can! Visiting? We’ll ship it to you!

About

Yarn Farm Kingston offers a curated selection of yarn, fiber, fabric, tools, accessories and kits for those who say and know, “I can make that!” with particular emphasis on locally sourced and small batch, hard-to-find, must-see-in-person goods. Items like farm to skein fine wool yarn, a complete farm product made entirely on site at Buckwheat Bridge Farm in Elizaville, hand turned yarn bowls by Hudson Valley Wooden Bowls, and hand dyed merino and mohair yarn from a shop favorite, cowgirlblues! At YFK, founder and owner Jocelyn Songco proposes to delight fiber artists — knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers, and sewers — as well as non-crafters aka “curious creatives”. Yarn Farm Kingston won a Chronogrammie Readers’ Choice Award for Best Yarn Shop by Chronogram readers in 2023!

Our wine bar offers delectable and reasonably priced wines, local craft beer and hard cider, locally blended tea, sodas and more. Todd is our chef and our bar manager and he aims to please, and for everyone to feel right at home! We won second place for Best Charcuterie Board by Chronogram readers! Along with crowd pleasing cheese and charcuterie boards we also offer simple fare. Our menu changes weekly and we typically offer soup, sandwiches, and sweets, and a vegan dish every week or so.

Directions and Parking

Street parking: pay meters with coins or the Flowbird app (excluding Sundays, holidays and other days after 6pm). Free parking in the municipal lot on Rondout Landing at the end of Broadway (under the bridge) and also by the Trolley Museum (short walk).

The Rondout Waterfront where YFK is located is a destination for locals and tourists alike with the above parking, plus some parking on residential streets near the shop. (Please read all signs when you park to be sure you’re ok to park there!) That said, it’s not the Fairgrounds so, naturally, will not have the extent of parking that the Festival does. Consider carpooling when you come to visit us!

Distances

  • Dutchess County Fairgrounds, 10.6 miles

  • Indie Untangled (We’re a sponsor!) and Cakepalooza (Saugerties), 14.0 miles

  • Wool & Folk (Catskills), 26-28 miles

Other fun activities while you’re in town

Though we wonder, who has time for anything unrelated to sheep and wool, we also accept that some fiber fanatics may come with partners and families who may want to explore. Fair enough! Suggestions in no particular order: Esopus Meadows Preserve, Kingston Point Rail Trail (part of the Empire State Trail, including Kingston Point Beach and a clear view of the Rondout Lighthouse), and Poets’ Walk Park (across the river) for easy-to-moderate outdoor strolls. Dog owners can visit shop mascot Zorro’s favorite, Kingston Point Dog Park. Bring water for you and your pup, in case the water tap isn’t turned on.

For shopping, check out Kingston Consignment, Half Moon Books, Exit 19 and Rough Draft for a bit of shopping in uptown Kingston. Closer to Yarn Farm, our Kingston Waterfront neighborhood has lovely mom and pop shops and eateries. Shop at our neighbors’ and tell them we sent you!

FAQ

A yarn shop? And a wine bar? How does this work?

In our shop and wine bar we sell yarn and other materials and tools for crafting, and we have an L-shaped bar plus an outdoor sidewalk cafe (in season, and yes it is still in season) where you can enjoy food and drinks. You can patronize one, or the other, or both!

Do you have food? Non-alcoholic beverages?

Indeed we do! See our brief About section above and also our Wine Bar page.

How do I make a reservation for your wine bar?

Great question! Short answer: Seating is first-come, first-served, meaning no reservations. Long answer: During non-Rhinebeck times we are a local neighborhood joint with service that is first-come, first-served, and this works well, particularly since we don’t have the standard staffing of a full-service restaurant or bar like a host/hostess or multiple servers. We have seating for 9 along our L-shaped bar, and on Knit Night we make space for about a dozen more by clearing our front tables of retail goods, and our sidewalk cafe has space for a dozen plus more. As well, we are on the Kingston Waterfront with heaps of benches and outdoor spots to sit and knit so provided the weather is accommodating, it is definitely an option to grab a snack from us and pick a seat with a waterfront view! In short, come on by and we believe there’ll be something for you!

Do you ship?

Yes, always! Specifically, we’ll charge a flat fee of $10 for any purchases from Wed-Mon, Oct 18-23 shipping within the continental US. International shipping will be at cost and we’ll email you an invoice for any difference in shipping cost over the initial $10 we’ll charge you at time of purchase. We will begin to ship packages starting Tues Oct 24.

I bought yarn or a kit that comes with a free pattern. Where is it?

We’ll send you a digital copy! Please email us with your pattern request and remind us of what you purchased and we’ll send it right out to you!

Could you wind my skein?

Ordinarily, YES, with pleasure! It’s a complimentary service we offer our customers. However, the week of S&W we regret that we will not be able to wind skeins. If you’re local, you can (as always) come back any time with the skeins you’ve bought from us and we’ll wind them for you. If you’re visiting, we’re happy to wind them and ship them to you for our flat $10 shipping fee, with no charge for winding.

Do you have an online store?

Not yet! But anything you see in the shop or on our Instagram is fair game to request to purchase by phone, email, or DM on Instagram. We can process secure sales with a Square invoice by email and send you your goodies for the actual cost of shipping. We shop around for the best shipping rates.

Are you on Facebook?

While we have a Facebook page (so no one else who’s not us can take it) we can’t manage posting there well, plus Instagram, plus this webpage, plus running a yarn shop and winebar. So the best updates from us are here, especially on our Announcements box on our Home page, and on Instagram.

Tell me more about YFK?

Happy to! Here’s our main website (vs. this short info page for S&W 2023) to learn more! More questions? Email us!
